Myrle Mensey keeps hammering away at American records   - Article
At 60, national champion Myrle Mensey keeps getting stronger and stronger.  And throwing heavy things farther.  At last Saturday’s Steel Throwers Open  (put on by this club) in Franklin, Tennessee, Myrle upped her own W60 American records in the weight throw and superweight toss a total of eight times!  She also had a monster foul of 18 meters (59-0 3/4) with  the 12-pound weight — beyond the listed world record of 17.84 (58-6 1/2) by Denmark’s Inge Faldager. She settled for 16.24 (53-3 1/2). Myrle writes: “It was a great meet . . . .  I threw the 25-pound weight 9.99 (32-9 1/2) – better than I’ve ever thrown it by about two feet. Previous PR 9.29 (30-5 3/4) at age 58. And yes, I kept them busy with the steel tape. . . . I broke the weight throw record five out of six throws and the superweight three out of six throws.”

                  - Article
Myrle Mensey, the top W60 thrower in the United States, picked up a handful of medals at Kamloops but is now rehabbing tendinitis and bursitis in her shoulder. No matter. Her prime focus now is a nonprofit group she founded a year ago that offers girls 10-18 “mentoring, physical training, education and nutrition information in an effort to encourage a balanced life through participating in the throwing sports: shot put, discus, javelin, and hammer throw.” Now that’s different!

Mensey qualifies for World Masters Track and Field Championships - Article
Instead of knitting and watching soaps, which some people her age might be doing, Mensey, who lives in North St. Louis, is busy winning world championships.
Mensey, who is ranked third in the world in the shot put and seventh in the hammer in her 55-59 age group, is headed to Italy next month to compete in the World Masters Track and Field Championships.

Myrle just keeps getting better. She is the current American record holder in the 16 lb. weight throw having twice broken the Broke record of 44’2” set in 2005

W60 weight throw records under assault by Myrle Mensey
                    - Article
Records are supposed to fall by tenths of seconds or by inches. Tell that to W60 Myrle Mensey of St. Louis. Competing at the USATF Midwest Regional Meet in Kenosha on Sunday, Myrle demolished two American records. In the 12-pound weight throw, Myrle went 16.64 meters (54-7 1/4). The old record by Carol Young was 14.04 (just over 46 feet). In the 25-pound superweight throw, Myrle heaved the sucker 9.18 (30-1 1/2), breaking Carol’s listed American record of 8.16 (26-9 1/4) by nearly 3 1/2 feet. Next up: Landover nationals and the listed WT world record of 17.57 (57-7 3/4) by Dutchwoman Annie van Anholt.  Let’s hope Myrle finally gets recognized for her amazing marks.
